Football, Football, Football, oh the La Veulta and the Ashes…

Dear Rouleurs,

Honestly, MMT’s mind has not been on cycling, at all. No it has been thoroughly preoccupied with the trials and tribulations of his beloved AFL team, Richmond. MMT is still trying to figure out how his team won enough games to be in the final to begin with. At one point, 3 of the team’s best 5 players were out injured. Richmond’s 4 time All Australian fullback, Alex Rance, has been absent the entire season with a knee injury.

Friday night’s Preliminary Final against Geelong is looking like a doozy. The Cats have lost their main forward Tom Hawkins due to a silly suspension. Richmond have a full strength, excluding Rance and Sydney Stack and an in form list to choose from. Richmond’s VFL side is in the VFL Grand Final having beaten Port Melbourne in the Preliminary Final.

The one gloomy cloud on an other wise promising horizon, is that MMT, wasn’t paying attention when the Grand Final ticket ballot was on and missed the brief 2 hour window to register for the ballot. Bother!!! Any how this is the maths that is occupying MMT’s time – will Richmond get past Geelong and will it be Collingwood or the GWS Giants they meet in the Grand Final.

Oh yeah, MMT mention that Primoz Roglic (tell me that his doesn’t sound like brand name for meat smallgoods, MMT digresses!!) riding for Jumbo-Visma, became the first Slovenian to win one of cycling’s three Grand Tours, La Vuelta. Also the Aussie cricket retained the Ashes but its paper thin batting, poor fielding and dreadful use of the DRS system cost it the final test at the Oval. Mere footnotes in history, if Richmond wins the flag in 2019.

Until next time, Go Tiges

Marv’s September Bike Log

Dear Rouleurs,

Here’s my greatly delayed bike log for September.  Garmin, you suck, have fixed their website and enabled the CVS download feature again.  About time!!!  Anyhooo……

September was another month messed up by YAFF – yet another f&%king flu, at the start and in the middle of the month.  Gap in the middle coincided with a very cold Qualifying Final at the MCG.  About 5 days later, YAFF was back and putting MMT out of action.  Happily, I was well enough to attend the Preliminary Final, 2 weeks later.  Still it meant that I rode for about 2 and 1/2 weeks of the month.  Hence the incredibly crap total of 444 km.  So here’s my monthly graph.  Its distinguished by flatline totals at the start and month of the month.

As a consequence, MMT missed his his monthly target by nearly 100km.    MMT is hoping for much better health and progress in October. Needless to say my Suffer Scores are pretty poor as well.

My ride log is found here.

Until next blog, ride safe.

Grand Final Jitters….

Dear Rouleurs,

OMG…MMT is still recovering from last Saturday night where the mighty Richmond Tigers despatched a star studded GWS Giants team.  Being at the MCG filled to the rafters with Richmond supporters, was an amazing experience.  The amount of noise being generated by some very one-sided barracking was deafening.  Apparently at its peak it reached 126 decibels which is in realm of jack hammers and jumbo jets.

The Richmond Grand Final week experience has been nothing short of amazing.  Here’s the short version.

Saturday 23rd September  – Richmond defeats GWS Giants by 36 points to reach the Grand Final for the first time since 1982.

Sunday 24th September – Richmond VFL loses to Port Melbourne by 4 points. Sam Lloyd is named best afield to win the Norm Goss Medal

Monday 25th September – Dustin Martin wins the 2017 Brownlow Medal.  Daniel Rioli wins Goal of the Year.  More importantly MMT receives a grand final ticket out of the ballot.  Trent Cotchin and Brandon Ellis avoid being rubbed out by the MRP.

Tuesday 26th September – Damian Hardwick is named 2017 AFL Coach of the Year.

Friday 29th September – Grand Final Parade

So celebrate this incredible run of Richmond achievement, MMT has posted a few photos from the Preliminary Final and from his lunchtime visit to Dusty Martin’s mural/Punt Road to celebrate the impending Grand Final.

Anyhow, that’s it from MMT. I’m off to the Grand Final which starts in about 2 and 1/2 hours. Go Tiges!!!!

YAFFed again and Richmonditis

Dear Rouleurs,

OMG I’ve been YAFFed again. YAFF being short for Yet Another F*$%king Flu.  I’ve recycled my daughter’s cold for the third time this year. Twice yaffed in this month of September, MMT has spent 8 days off work trying to ward off this rotten, rotten cold. I’m mean its not even the proper ‘flu’ that’s reached epidemic levels in southern Australia.

So that means MMT’s numbers for September will be well and truly sub-par…boooooo!!!

On a different tact, MMT’s Richmonditis has reached full blown status with every TV, newspaper and piece of social media commentary inducing nervous heart palpitations and,  in some cases, a vertigo like feeling. MMT can not wait until tomorrow afternoon and the start of preliminary final against the Greater Western Sydney Giants. Speaking of which here’s the team lists.

Hopefully, the weather will be excellent tomorrow, the forecast is for a summer-like 27 degrees. That should be good for both cycling and football.

Fingers crossed, Go Tiges!!!
